Ian Dickinson – Artist Profile

Brought up on a farm in northern Victoria, Ian has always appreciated the rural environments and landscapes of regional Australia.

He completed studies in Industrial Design at the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology. It was here that he studied 20th century modernism and how it has influenced our environment. He worked as a graphic designer and illustrator in Melbourne and Canberra, moved to WA in 1988, first to Cape Range National Park near Exmouth, then to Roleystone in the Darling Ranges near Perth in 1996. From his workshop he paints in oils supplying galleries and other clients in Australia and overseas.

The use of an abstract style gives him more freedom in the use of line, colour, texture, space and form. Using the interplay of these picture elements he aims to achieve an aesthetic design and at the same time maintain the identity of the location.

His work is focused on the beauty and expanse of the Australian environment and our place within it. The reality and consequences of our impact provide another layer of interest.
